Activist Hmad Hamad's passport confiscated


After an intense campaign led by the Kingdom of Morocco against the Saharawi human rights activists following the arrest of seven Sahrawi activists, and after the confiscation of passports of seven more, there's a new  name on the list, the activist Hmad Hamad.

Place: El Aaiun / Western Sahara.

Date: 13 - Janvier - 2010.

Mr. Hmad was presented on Wednesday morning, 13 January 2010 to collect Moroccan passport renewal after submitting all necessary documents required by Moroccan law.

The Moroccan authorities, in this case the senior officer in charge of the passport office in El Aaiun, has said this issue  is in the hands of the Ministry of Interior of Morocco and is working to manage the process.

This is contrary to all conventions and charters and international laws on freedom of movement.

Morocco is contrary to Article 9 of the Constitution which guarantees freedom of movement of people, and despite the ratification of several international conventions including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, according to the following:

Article 3 "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person"

Article 13: "Everyone has freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each State."
