Germany renews its support for UN efforts to find solution to question of Western Sahara based on UN resolutions and Charter:
Berlin, May 25, 2010: The German government has renewed its support to the efforts of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable peaceful solution to the conflict in Western Sahara based on the related United Nations resolutions.
The German government called upon the concerned parties t, in a written reply to a written interpellation of 40 questions tabled by Members of the Bundestag Sevim Dağdelen, Christine Buchholz, Annette Groth, further Members of the Bundestag and the Left Party parliamentary group, to constructively continue negotiations under the auspices of the UNSG Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross.
The German government confirmed that the conflict in Western Sahara is the subject of political dialogues and contacts between the German government, European Union and partners in the region.
The German government highlighted in its response that "respect for human rights and civil liberties in Western Sahara is under discussion in the ongoing dialogue between the German government, European Union and Kingdom of Morocco.
The German government pointed out that it takes into account the legal status of Western Sahara in its trade transactions, articulate by the European Parliament report which stressed the need that the exploitation activities of natural resources in the non-independent territories agree with the international law, expressing its rejection of any business in Western Sahara.
