Winnie Mandela calls for decolonization of Western Sahara:

Madrid, 28 May, 2010: South African militant Winnie Mandela called Thursday in Madrid for the decolonization of Western Sahara, "the last colony in Africa," and condemned the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara, comparing it with "the fascist apartheid regime" in South Africa.

Amnesty concerned about risks human rights activists facing in Western Sahara:

London, 27 May, 2010: Amnesty International has expressed concern about the suffering of the Sahrawi human rights activists in the occupied territories of Western Sahara as a result of their activities in defense of freedom of speech and right of self-determination.

In its 2010 Report, published Thursday, Amnesty International noted that Moroccan "authorities tightened restrictions on expressions in favour of self-determination for the people of Western Sahara."

Algeria and South Africa condemn human rights violations in occupied territories of Western Sahara:

Algiers, 27 May, 2010: Algeria and South Africa have condemned human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, according to a statement released Wednesday in Algiers following the fifth session of the Algerian - South African High Commission of Cooperation.

Remaining non-self-governing territories must have full freedom of choice, Ban says:

The world’s 16 remaining territories that still do not govern themselves must have complete freedom in deciding their future status, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told a forum on decolonization today.         “Our common challenge remains the full implementation of the Declaration,” he told the three-day Seminar in Noumea, New Caledonia, referring to the General Assembly’ landmark Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, which this year marks its 50th anniversary.

Madrid, 26 May, 2010: The works of the fourth universities study days started Wednesday at the Fine Arts Center in the Spanish capital, Madrid, under the theme " Western Sahara is still on the agenda of decolonization and human rights," with the participation of a large Sahrawi delegation headed by the Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb-Omar.

South Africa to keep supporting Western Sahara for self-determination:

Algiers ,May 26, 2010: South Africa will keep supporting the right of Western Sahara people to self-determination, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana Mashabane affirmed Tuesday in Algiers.

"South Africa will keep supporting Sahrawi people to exercise its unalienable right for self determination in a free, democratic, and independent way," Nkoana Mashabane said in her speech at the opening of the 5th session of Algeria-South Africa High commission of bilateral cooperation.

University open days on Western Sahara at University of Madrid May 26 to 29:

Madrid, May 25, 2010: Spanish public and independent universities in Madrid are preparing to supervise the fourth days of solidarity with the Sahrawi cause on May 26 to 29, according to the correspondent of Sahrawi News Agency (SPS) in Madrid.

The Program adopted by the University of Madrid and many universities have engaged in it, has been organizing activities during the month of May for four years, and intends to implement educational and scientific projects in Sahrawi refugee camps, according to one of the organizers.

Germany renews its support for UN efforts to find solution to question of Western Sahara based on UN resolutions and Charter:

Berlin, May 25, 2010: The German government has renewed its support to the efforts of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable peaceful solution to the conflict in Western Sahara based on the related United Nations resolutions.

Strasbourg (France) 24 Mai 2010: A demonstration was organised Sunday in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, calling it to not enter into economic agreements with Morocco on the Sahrawi soils, at the close of the first German – Sahrawi – French Youth Conference, held in Berlin, between 18 and 22 May, according to the Polisario Representation in Berlin.

Algiers,May23 ,2010: Participants at the International Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi youth and students have called on Saturday in Algiers, international organizations to assume "full" commitments and obligations towards the Saharawi people and put pressure on Morocco to respect the principles of the UN Charter.
