Moroccan embassy calls to boycott African - Chilean week honoring Saharawi Republic :
Santiago (Chile), August 10, 2010, The Moroccan embassy in Chile issued a statement, considered an affront to civil society in this Latin American country, inciting public opinion against participating in the first African-Chilean week which will be held August 9-14, with the participation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) a guest of honor.
According to a statement issued Saturday by the Saharawi mission in Chile, the Moroccan tense reaction was due to the steady success of Saharawi diplomatic work in Chile and Latin America in general, where the civil societies and official institutions are becoming more aware about the realities of the Saharawi cause.
The Chief of Saharawi Mission in Chile, Mr. Mohamed Zrug, considered the desperate campaign because of the "Moroccan colonial regime was aware that it began to lose its supporters in Chile as well as in other countries in the world, as a result to the growing condemnation of its policies and practices of colonial occupation in Western Sahara."
"Morocco tries to raise suspicion, terror, humiliation and mutilation against the right of the free citizens in this country and against people legitimately defending its right to self-determination and independence, guaranteed in the international legality." He added.
The Saharawi mission in this Latin American country stressed "the satisfaction of the Saharawi people and Polisario Front for honouring African Union countries for their struggle for liberation and development, and gratitude for the selection of the SADR as a guest of honour in this special cultural event."
It is worth mentioning that the first African - Chilean week is organized by a number of associations, universities, media and institutions of Chile.
