El Ayun, August 10, 2010: Moroccan forces of repression dispersed Monday a second sit-in of Saharawi workers in the occupied city of Al Ayun, organized in front of the so-called Department of Energy and Minerals, to appeal to the international community to apply pressure on Morocco for the respect of human rights in Western Sahara, including the confiscated rights of the workers.

The peaceful sit-in was called for by the trade union confederation of Saharawi workers and attended by dozens of Saharawi workers, before they were besieged by the Moroccan security services in Smara Street, to prevent the Saharawi citizens from joining it.

Saharawi human rights sources informed that three Saharawi citizens, at least, suffered injuries of varying gravity, during the event.

According to a statement of the Confederation, a copy of it reached UPES Site, the Saharawi demonstrators protested against the inhuman practices committed by the Moroccan occupying authorities against Saharawi citizens, and Saharawi workers in particular.

The statement expressed the strong condemnation of Saharawi workers to the systematic exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara by the Moroccan regime, recalling the responsibility of the Spanish state on the negative consequences and tragedies experienced by Saharawi workers after it shamefully and blatantly gave up its historic responsibilities in the right of the Saharawi people.

They called to find a quick solution to their problems accumulated since the Spanish state abandoned them, leaving them in the hands of the Moroccan occupation authorities, which deepened their sufferings by depriving them of all their acquired rights.

The Sahrawi workers warned that they may have to accelerate the forms of struggle to assert their legitimate rights, urging the international community to immediately intercede to exert pressure on Morocco and impose respect for human rights and international law with regard to the management of the colonies, in reference to that Morocco is merely an illegal occupation in Western Sahara.

It should be recalled that the FOS Bukraa pensioners and workers and their families had denounced,Wednesday, the violent repression by the Moroccan security forces against a peaceful protest August 2, in the occupied city of Al Ayun, where dozens of Sahrawi demonstrators were injured during the event.
