Five other Sahrawi detainees join movement of unlimited hunger strike in Moroccan prisons:
Taroudannt (Morocco), April 5, 2010 - Five other Sahrawi political detainees in the prisons of Bin-Suleiman, Taroudannt and Kunitra Joined Monday the Movement of the unlimited hunger strike in the Moroccan prisons, which had been launched by five of their mates since March 8, in the Sale prison, later on joined by other 24 in Tiznit and Inezgane prisons, according to human rights sources.
The source pointed out that the stand comes in protest against "the indifference of the Moroccan state" to their just and legitimate demands, ill-treatment and their dismal conditions in the Moroccan prison as prisoners of conscience.
The detainees said in a statement, a copy of it received by SPS, "they are constantly exposed to physical and psychological torture and deprived of fundamental rights in addition to being away from their families which travel hundreds of miles to see them amid tight guard and inspection by the prison staff, the source added.
The detainees warned against the serious health situation of hunger strikers in Tezinit and Inzigan prisons, holding the Moroccan state responsible of the severe consequences that might result from the hunger strike and directly threaten their lives.
Finally, the detainees demanded improving their conditions and permitting them of their rights and all Sahrawi prisoners in the Moroccan prisons, calling on human rights organizations to put pressure on Morocco to end the tragedy of the hunger strikers to avoid an imminent humanitarian catastrophe.
