Moroccan police assaults by beating two Saharawi elderly women in occupied city of El Aaiun:
El Aaiun, August 29, 2010: The Moroccan police assaulted Saturday by beating two Saharawi elderly women, beyond the 70 years, and detained some Saharawis who tried to defend them, according to a statement of the Sahrawi Association for Victims of Gross Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State.
The statement added that Zaina Brahim Bachir, 75 years, confirmed to the Association that “she was standing in front of the door of her house, when a group of Moroccan police led by the Corporal, Abdul Ali Rashidi, were chasing Saharawi demonstrators, the Corporal yelled her and ordered her to enter her house, while she was responding to his orders he kicking her and tried to break into her house after she entered it.”
For her part, Tagla Salem Buzaid, 72 years, confirmed that she was attacked by the same elements, saying that the latter tried to break into her house, before she called assistance from members of her family to prevent them.
The two women emphasized that the Moroccan police have arrested Saharawi citizens where protesting against the assault, expressing fears on their fate especially after they has been violently attacked and transported on a Moroccan police vehicle.
The Association said that the occupied city of El Aaiun have been witnessing since more than two weeks peaceful demonstrations to demand the right of self-determination to the Saharawi people, which were excessively violated by the occupation regime.
The Sahrawi Association for Victims of Gross Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State expressed its deep concern about violation of the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Saharawi citizens, in addition its fears about the use of hundreds of Moroccan policemen who sent to occupied Western Sahara in escalation and terrorism purposes against the Saharawi citizens and confiscation of their natural right to freedom of opinion and expression.
